John McManus, 88th Regiment of Foot

Attested 1809

  • Attested at Kinsale, county Cork 09.05.1809 at age of 18 yrs.

Served in 88th Regiment of Foot till 1830

In action at BUSACO, FUENTES D’HOXOR, CONDAD RODRIGO, DALAMANCA, VITTORIAO, NIVE, ORTHES, PIRENEESE, TOULOUSE and at the siege of BADAJOZ.

He was with the Regiment in NORTH AMERICA and at the storming of PLATTS BARGE. He was wounded at BUSACO in the right arm by a gunshot wound.

He received two wounds of the head from a shell at the storming of BADAJOZ and was wounded in the right thigh by grapeshot at VITTORIA.

  • That his conduct has been of a good and efficient soldier. A trustworthy and sober man.

  • Complexion - fresh
  • Occupation - labourer

Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, and has resigned at his own request.
