Thomas’s Previous Known Home Addresses
Died 22 February 1922
Thomas died on 22 February 1922 in Bellevue Hospital. His death certificate listed the cause of death as “Diabetes mellitus and Chronic nephritis”..
Diabetes mellitus
Until the early nineteenth century, diabetes mellitus was regarded as a disease of the kidney, in which there was an increase in the volume of urine and a wasting of the flesh. With the identification of glucose in blood and urine in the late eighteenth century, first it was re-framed as a disease of assimilation and only then became a metabolic disorder.
Chronic nephritis
Bright’s disease is a historical classification of kidney diseases that are described in modern medicine as acute or chronic nephritis.[1] It was characterized by swelling and the presence of albumin in the urine, and was frequently accompanied by high blood pressure and heart disease.
Age at Death was 63, not 55
The certificate also indicates his age of the time of death as 55, but since he is listed on the 1860 census, his age should be around 63.
At the time of his death in 1922 his home residence was 322 East 35th Street, New York, NY
