Read the illustrated business and obituary post. The Tribune supports death on 27 July at 844 Castro Street but gives age 60, conflicting with the tree’s 1851 birth. The Call reports a funeral and interment on 30 July. His widow is not named. McManus & Freeman advertise as successors; the partners and transfer date remain unverified.
Estate papers and further funeral coverage
Letters of administration appoint Mary A. McManus on 18 October 1906. A will-contest pleading identifies her as James’s wife and names brothers, nieces and nephews. It alleges that James left no issue and died intestate, but the contest outcome is not supplied. The widow described as unnamed in the earlier obituary is named in this separate source.
Last Tribute to James M’Manus adds funeral coverage with an unresolved newspaper citation. James’s own interment is not clearly identified on the supplied family register extract.
